She may not have any U.S. dates currently on her tour schedule, but pop-punk rocker Avril Lavigne managed to slip into the states for a single show. On Saturday night Lavigne performed as part of the Rays Summer Concert Schedule, a post-game concert series hosted by the Tampa Bay Rays.

The live music scene around the Tampa area is full of choices for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Check out a few of my suggestions below:

ThursdaySeven Mary Three at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, Tampa – I’ll be on-hand to cover this show, so check back for pics on Friday.

Friday :

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Jannus Live, St. Petersburg – Old-school hip-hop in downtown St. Pete.

Blast Friday: Atlanta Rhythm Section, Cleveland Street in front of the Capitol Theatre, Clearwater – Free concert from a great band. What more could you ask for?

Saturday:

Avril Lavigne, Tropicana Field (after the Tampa Bay Rays game), St. Pete – Yeah, the field will be full of screaming teen fans, but it should still be a good show.I plan on wading into the mayhem for a few good pics, so be sure to check back for updates on Sunday.

97X Backyard BBQ w/Sick Puppies, Panic! At The Disco, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, AWOLNATION, The Airborne Toxic Event, Hugo, Marksmen, Vinoy Park, St. Petersburg. – I’m going to miss this event because, well, I’ll just say it……. I’m getting old. Getting into and out of events at Vinoy Park is a pain in the butt and I’d rather not put myself through the hassle unless it’s a really big show that I can’t avoid.

Taproot w/Seven Years Past, Devil Made Microphones, We’re All Virus, Soulidium, The State Theatre, St. Petersburg

Sunday:  Face to Face w/Blitzkid, Strung Out, The State Theatre, St. Petersburg

Monday:  Foxy Shazam w/Peter Pepper, The Orpheum, Ybor City (Tampa)

Saving Abel

Just a quick note of apology to the guys, and girl, in Red Line Chemistry, Seven Years Past and Sunshine and Bullets, who opened for Saving Abel at the State Theatre last night. Unfortunately, due to a major camera memory card failure, all my images of these bands where lost. I was able to savage a few images of Saving Abel from another camera, but nothing of the opening acts. REALLY SORRY, GUYS! I’ll be sure to catch y’all again next time.
